The Assassination of the Sorceress Queen
Perhaps one of the most prodigious spellcasters to have ever lived, the Sorceress Queen ruled over the Northern and Southern Continents from her throne in the spire of Escaria.  Her death was sudden and without precident, as she simply stopped breathing one day while she was out of body by magic, and with examination of her personage, it was discovered that her body's connection to its soul had been severed, leaving the Queen lifeless.

Her body has since been preserved and entombed, awaiting its soul's return, though the wards and protections about it are such that only the Sorceress Queen herself could possibly bypass them and access the body within.  It has been 400 years since, and there shows no signs of resurrection.  In this time, the Kingdoms of the norther and southern continents have risen and now a council rules Escaria, led by a female spellcaster said to hold the Queen's bloodline.

The Sundering
200 years past, the arrival of the Unity Spire shook the plane.  Earthquakes raged across the entirety of the world as the Unity Continent was lanced and shattered by the behemoth tower, its populace presumed lost amid the massive upheaval.  Mystical investigations propose that the tower was adrift in the interplanar sea and happened to collide with the planisphere, however there is a divide between whether this was accidental or intentional.  Studies of Unity have since been difficult and limited, due to the effects the spire has had on those within its influence.

The Dawn of Steam Power
Perhaps no more remarkable than the discovery of metal-smithing or the revolution of sanitation, the revelation of steam power is a new and exciting concept for the world.  First discovered by the Vaasi Flotilla, the technology has since been slowly distributed throughout the world.  Most notably put to task by the Dwarven Kingdoms for its aid in mining and machined production, the Steam Engine has only recently seen its development and use.  The world watches to see where this technology might lead!

The Oxident's Black Powder Revealed
Once, just a tool for mystics and alchemists, the famed black powder that has been put to task in the Oxident has seen its secrets revealed to the world at large.  The mixing of saltpeter, charcoal and sulfur has since been utilized by kingdoms worldwide and the first and most advanced firearms have seen production.  Though not yet as powerful or reliable as the crossbow or magical spell, its relative ease of use makes it a desirable tool for the generic infantry.  However, the complexity of the design and its weakness of moisture have made them unreliable and dangerous, hindering their use.  Furthermore, the debate over honour and skill, as well as the newfound mortality for the commanders on the battlefield have further reduced distribution of these new tools.  Only time will tell how this invention will last.
